Successive Tremors Rock Hingoli District: 3.3 and 4.5 Magnitude Quakes Cause Brief Panic, No Damage

HINGOLI, Maharashtra — Two successive mild tremors rocked parts of Maharashtra’s Hingoli district on Saturday, with the first measuring 3.3 magnitude and a subsequent, stronger jolt of 4.5 magnitude recorded just two hours later.
Despite the seismic activity causing brief alarm among residents, local authorities have confirmed that there are no casualties or structural property damage reported.
The initial seismic event originated from the Gadhala area of the Aundha Nagnath tehsil at 7:46 am, accompanied by a noticeable rumbling sound that prompted many residents to rush out of their homes.
The second, more pronounced tremor followed shortly after, amplifying concerns in the region but fortunately resulting in no major disruptions to infrastructure or daily life.
The Hingoli district and the broader Marathwada region have experienced intermittent seismic activities over the past several years.
While previous tremors in the area have occasionally caused minor structural cracks or widespread anxiety, the region’s building codes and disaster preparedness measures have largely mitigated severe outcomes.
In response to the morning quakes, the district administration and local disaster management teams have been placed on high alert to monitor the situation and assess any potential aftershocks.
Officials have urged residents to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified rumors, and adhere to standard earthquake safety protocols, such as "Drop, Cover, and Hold On."
Seismologists note that the Deccan Plateau, while generally considered a stable continental region, does have localized fault lines that can occasionally release built-up tectonic stress, resulting in low-to-moderate magnitude earthquakes.
The National Center for Seismology (NCS) is continuously monitoring the region’s seismic data to provide timely updates and ensure public safety.
As the day progresses, authorities will conduct thorough inspections of vulnerable structures, including older buildings and local temples, to ensure absolute safety. For now, the swift confirmation of zero casualties has brought a sense of relief to the residents of Hingoli.
